We maintain an ongoing dialogue with UK policy makers and legislators, lobbying where we are able, so that, where possible, laws reflect the concerns of the industry.
Organisations with whom the Association maintains contact includes: Financial Conduct Authority, Payment Systems Regulator, HM Treasury, HM Revenue and Customs MLR, Department for International Development, Financial Ombudsman Service, National Crime Agency, etc.
Government and regulators will regularly contact us to seek an update on what is happening operationally in the payments sector.
Where appropriate, and where it can be helpful to our members, we will also have discussions with other relevant representative organisations. This includes, for example, UK Finance (representing the UK banks) and other trade associations where we share an agenda.
Our recent areas of focus have been:
Access to bank accounts
Having PI′s designated as an “essential service” during the COVID-19 crisis, enabling them to re-open
Ensuring that PI′s are eligible for local authority support in the form of either business rates relief or grants
